Robert Dean Draper
Robert Dean Draper, age 83, of Ohio, Illinois died Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at his home after a short battle with cancer.
Robert was born on July 5, 1928 in Bureau County the son of Ivan L. and Helen (Murphy) Draper . He was united in marriage with Barbara Dahl on January 17, 1953 in Walnut, Illinois. He served in the United States Army with the 24th Infantry Division in Korea where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroism in ground combat near Pyoru, Korea on October 11, 1951.
He attended Rock Falls High School and graduated from Ohio High School in 1946. He graduated in 1963 from Fellers College of Auctioneering, Cissna Park, Illinois. Robert was a real estate broker, a licensed auctioneer, an Illinois Certified General Real Estate Appraiser and owner of Draper Real Estate and Auction Service. He was engaged in farming in the Tampico area before moving to a farm near Ohio in 1958.
He was a lifetime member of the Bureau County Agricultural Society where he served on the executive board and as Ohio Township director for many years. He also served on the Ohio Grade School Board of Education for several years. He was a member of the Walnut Christian Church where he had served as deacon, elder, trustee and Sunday School teacher. He was also a member of the Walnut Masonic Lodge.
Robert is survived by his wife Barbara Draper of Ohio, Illinois; daughter Deanna Bohbrink of Bloomington, Illinois; grandson Shane Dean Bohbrink of Chicago, Illinois; one brother Merrill “Pat” (Joyce) Draper of Amboy, Illinois; one sister Marjorie (Harry) Frank of Palm Springs, California; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gordon and Bette Dahl of Walnut, Illinois; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Marvin, James who was killed in WWII, and Ivan “Short” Draper and one sister Marian (Myron) Gustafson.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, December 5, 2011at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church of Walnut with the Rev. Brian Moore, pastor officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut.
