Manlius, IL Pamela J. Hanich Pamela J. Hanich, age 71, of Manlius, died Monday, November 14, 2016 at her home. Pam was born October 1, 1945 in Sterling the daughter of Paul and Ada (Shaw) Klocke. She graduated from Sterling High School in 1963. Pam married Clare Foy on November 14, 1964. She later married Roger Hanich on November 27, 1982. Pam was previously employed at Harper Wyman, Manlius Clinic and Manlius U.S. Post Office. She was a member of the New Bedford Christian Church. Pam was a master gardener who enjoyed working in her garden. She also enjoyed quilting with her sewing group. She created many heirlooms for her family and friends. She was beloved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed. Survivors include three children, Michael (Gary Boyer) Foy of Portland, Ore., Michelle (Terry) Carter of Sterling and Marshall (Rebecca) Foy of Tampico; five step children, Dawn (Chris) Hoban of Fort Myers, Fla., Michelle Hanich of Princeton, Keith (Louann) Hanich of Lake in the Hills, Theresa (Efren) Salazar of Spring, Texas and R.J. Hanich of Chicago; seven siblings, Nancy (Peter) Gartner, Janet (John) Wheat, Patrick (Bobbie) Klocke, Michael (Keri) Klocke, Laurie (David) Penfold, Craig Klocke and Paul (Delia) Klocke; three grandchildren, Wesley (Samantha) Foy, Annika Carter and Mack Foy; eight step grandchildren, Steven Carter, Mindy (Mike) Spencer, Megan (Fabian Mendoza) Carter, Eric Mares, Mitchell Mares, Matthew Schlindwein, Ashley (Cory) Armstrong and Ramiro Salazar; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband and her parents. Visitation will be Thursday, November 17, 2016 from 9 – 10:45 AM at the New Bedford Christian Church. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11:00 AM at the church with Reverend Brian Moore officiating. Burial will be at Union Cemetery in rural New Bedford. WALNUT- Wanda J. (Hansen) Peterson, age 82 of Walnut, died Friday, November 11, 2016 at Heritage Care of Walnut.
Wanda was born on June 19, 1934 in Mazon, IL, the daughter of George & Mildred (Brooks) Reader, Sr. She married Richard N. Hansen on August 16, 1952 in Princeton. He preceded her in death on January 4, 1987. She then married Forrest “Buck” Peterson on October 27, 1990 in Walnut. He preceded her in death on September 9, 2010. Wanda was a member of the Walnut United Methodist Church and a member of the former Hamilton Club. She enjoyed baking pies, tending to her flower garden, playing cards, and most of all, spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters, Barb Rutledge of Walnut and Beth Nelson of Deer Grove; two sons, Barry (Karen) Hansen of Hayden, Idaho and Bill Hansen of Chandler, Arizona; three step-children, Kim (Teri) Peterson, Kurt (Julie) Peterson and Bunni (Bob) Cline; one sister, Shirley (Bill) Weaver of Morris, Illinois; one brother, George Reader, Jr. of Coal City, Illinois; five grandchildren, Scott (Ruby) Rutledge, Tammy (Jason) Vidmar, Tonya (Mike) Besler, Trisha (Rob) Blackwell and Cody Nelson; nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; three sisters, Vivian Burke, Rita Oakland and Viola Shoemaker; two brothers, Roy and Kenneth “Doc” Reader and one brother in infancy, Donald Reader.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 19, 2016 from 9:00 to 11:00 A.M. at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home.

Geneva A. Jensen, 75, of Walnut, died Monday morning, October 3, 2016 at her home.
Born November 11, 1940 in Taylorville, she was a daughter of Orville and Sarah (Clark) Grant. She attended grade school in Edinburg, Il and graduate from Ohio High School. She married Willard “Bill” Jensen on July 8, 1967 in Walnut. He preceded her in death on April 12, 2007. She had worked at Harper-Wyman in Princeton; Walnut Manor Nursing Home; Empire Level Co; Walmart in Sterling and transferring to Princeton where she retired. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Walnut. She had served as a past Cub Scout Den mother in Sheffield and Walnut. She was a member of the Sterling Women of the Moose and Chairwomen of Mooseheart for 2 years and a past member of the Walnut Chamber of Commerece.
Survivors include her sons: Douglas (Brenda) Jensen of Bureau and Willard “Bill “ (Linda) Jensen of New Bewdford; daughters: Dixi Hill of Walnut and Donna (Kevin) Scanlan of Tampico; sisters, Doris (Gene) Maxedon, Gladys Hanson, and Maxine Hughes; brothers, Fred (Julia) Grant and Clarence (Mary) Grant; and 7 grandchildren: Austin (Katie), Natasha, Savanah, Cody, Evan (Katelynn), Riley, Caden.
Geneva was preceded in death by her husband; a grandson Chad Alan Hill; four sisters: Mary Dyer, Laverne Simpson, Barbara Quickle and Alberta Willis; a brother Steve Grant.
A gathering of friends and family will take place on Wednesday October 5, 2016 from 10 – 11 AM at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. A memorial service will follow at 11 AM at the funeral home with the Reverend Thomas Shaw, pastor of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Walnut officiating. Burial will conclude at Walnut Cemetery.

Tampico TAMPICO – Joyce Fortune, age 87, died Friday, September 30, 2016 at Good Samaritan Prophets Riverview Nursing Home. Joyce was born on April 8, 1929 in Sterling the daughter of Jobert and Olive (Jester) Kinney. She married Donald Fortune on May 4, 1947 in Rock Falls. Joyce was employed as a Registered Nurse at CGH Hospital and several area nursing homes. She was an active member of the Advent Christian Church in Prophetstown. Joyce was loved and will be missed by her family and friends. Survivors include her husband, Don Fortune of Tampico; one son, Thomas (Regi) Fortune of Tampico; two grandchildren, Christine (Michael) Terry of Tampico and Tommy Joe (Angela) Fortune of Chicago; two great grandchildren, Mikeila Sanders and Nicholas Terry. Visitation will be from 9:30 – 11:00 AM Monday, October 3, 2016 at the Advent Christian Church in Prophetstown. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM with Reverend Jim Jensen officiating. She was born on April 4, 1924 near Walnut, the daughter of Joseph and Ada (McCall) Wiggim. She married Ralph N. Thompson on February 1, 1945 in Princeton. He died May 4, 2005. She had worked as a beautician and was a home maker. Eunice was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Walnut. Surviving are 5 daughters, Sue Ann (Larry) Frank of Princeton, Patricia (Bruce) Atherton of Walnut, Jane (Pete) Miller of Harmon, Julie Thompson of Walnut, and Lisa (Greg) Heaton of Dixon; 3 sons, Dave (Jill) Thompson of Clear Lake, CA, Gene (Rose) Thompson of Eldina, MN and Thomas (Loretta) Thompson of Braceville, IL; 20 grandchildren and 49 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a grandson Brett Thompson; two granddaughters in law Margaret Atherton and Jill Thompson, 3 brothers and 4 sisters. Susan was born on May 27, 1950, in Mendota, IL, the daughter of Thomas P. and Elizabeth (Lonie) Lane. She married Terry Doty on December 25, 2007, in Peru, IL. Susan attended Western Illinois University in Macomb. She was employed with Walmart for over 20 years as a District Manager and Bealls Retail Store in Eustis, FL, for 5 years. Susan enjoyed spending time with her family. She had a lifelong love for horses. Other hobbies included gardening, sewing and crocheting. Susan was an active member of the Walnut Community Bible Church; she enjoyed reading, studying and living the word of God. Survivors include her husband, Terry Doty of Walnut, IL; children, Angela (Patrick) Spelman, Douglas Pocius, Peru, IL, and Christopher (Theresa) Pocius, Oglesby, IL; grandchildren Machenzie Ellis and Mannix Truckenbrod; siblings, Patty (Dennis) Flaherty, Paula (Don) Jones, Davenport, IA, Vincent “Ben” (Diana) Lane, Barefoot Bay, FL., Loretta (Edward) McConville, Greer, S.C., Mark (Teresa) Lane, Earlville, IL. Harmon, IL WALNUT – Harold C. “Mick” Dietz, age 93, formerly of Harmon died Saturday, August 20, 2016 at the Heritage Manor in Walnut. Harold was born on August 21, 1922 in Harmon the son of William P. and Ethel (Parker) Dietz. He married Jean Blocher on June 2, 1944 in Maquoketa, Iowa. She preceded him in death on September 1, 2011. Harold farmed all his life in the Harmon area and was a truck driver with the Teamsters Union . He was a member of Harmon United Methodist Church and the Walnut Masonic Lodge for over 70 years. Harold was involved in the local CB Radio club for several years and was an avid NASCAR fan. Survivors include, two daughters, Mary (Tom) Parrott of Fruitland, Iowa and Diane (Dave) Schoenholz of Dixon; five sons, Mike (Sally) Dietz of Georgia, John Dietz of Nevada, Joe (Carol) Dietz of Walnut, Jimmy (Anita) Dietz of Texas and David (Susan) Dietz of Walnut; two brothers, Lowell “Bud” (Arlene) Dietz of Lanark and Jack (Gloria) Dietz of Harmon; 30 grandchildren; many great grand and great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Leota Johnson and Wilma Blackorby; one daughter, Wilma Paris. Visitation will be Thursday, August 25, 2016 from 9:30-11:00 A.M. at the Walnut Community Bible Church, Walnut. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday at the church with Reverend Eldon Cook and Reverend Leanne Keate co-officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Harmon. Elizabeth “Liz” (Sims) Downey, 81, of Sioux Falls, S.D., formerly of Ohio, Ill., died Tuesday, Aug, 9, 2016 after a brief stay at Palisade Healthcare Center in Garretson, S.D.
Liz was born May 19, 1935 in Tiskilwa, Ill., to Paul and Agatha (Taylor) Sims. She married Joseph “Joe” Downey, of Ohio, on Nov. 27, 1954 at St. Mary’s Church in Tiskilwa. Joe preceded her in death in 2005. Liz and Joe were devoted to each other, their children, grandchildren, and extended families. Liz had a great heart and empathy for the handicapped and underdog. When she lived in Loves Park, Ill., she worked as a paraprofessional in a school for youth with disabilities. She later worked with the disabled at Gateway in Princeton, Ill. After they moved to the Downey family farm in Ohio, Liz and Joe were foster parents to a number of children in need of a stable, loving home. Liz also was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Ohio where she was involved in the Ohio Council of Catholic Women.
Survivors include three daughters, Teresa (Gary) Gabriel of Brenham, Texas, Deborah (Patrick) Clark of Omaha, Neb., and Amy (Phil Gartner) Downey of Glenview; two sons, Larry (Carolyn) Downey of Kennesaw, Ga. and Paul (Therese) Downey of Sioux Falls, S.D.; five sisters, Jenirose (Donald) Houston of Tiskilwa, Mary Sims of Loves Park, Clara (George) Janet of The Villages, Fla; Cecelia Sims of Princeton and Carol (Mark) Albrecht of Ohio; three brothers, Cletus (Nancy) Sims of Tiskilwa, Frederick (Sharon) Sims of St. Charles and Edward (Mary Jo) Sims of Palatine; ten grandchildren, Dana (Jason) Smith, Erin Clark, Haley Clark, Katherine (Ryan) Gartin, Samantha Downey, Melissa Downey, Christopher Downey, Sean Downey, Anna Gartner and Abby Gartner; two great-grandchildren, Charlotte Smith and Adam Gartin; and many, many treasured nieces and nephews.
Liz was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother, Charles Sims (survived by wife, Phyllis).
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Mon, Aug. 15, 2016 at the Garland Funeral Home, Walnut, Ill., and 9 – 9:45 a.m., Tues., Aug. 16 at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Ohio. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church with Reverend Thomas Shaw officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ohio. Immediately following the burial, please join Liz’s family for lunch at the church.

She married Paul T. Cooney on September 3, 1945 in Jacksonville. He passed away on January 24, 2006. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ohio. Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Carmel (Bill) Kuhlman and Paula Cooney both of Quincy; a son, Pat (Mary) Cooney of Ohio; 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Donald Charles Rod, 80 of Amboy, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, August 2, 2016 surrounded by his family.
Donald was born December 17, 1935 in Charles Harris Hospital, Mendota, to Ross and Verna (Wendel) Rod, the youngest of four children. He grew up in Clarion Township and attended a one-room school. He graduated from Mendota High School in 1953 and joined the Illinois National Guard in 1958 in Ottawa and transferred to Sycamore for 6 years of service. He married Shirley M. Faber on September 22, 1957 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Moille. He was a lifelong farmer, starting in Clarion Township and then moving to East Grove Township in 1968 where he farmed the rest of his life. He was a member of the Ohio First Lutheran Church where he had served on the church council. He enjoyed helping people
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley of Amboy; two daughters, Marilyn (Andy) Geiger of Sterling and Marcia (Robert) Hartwig of Princeton; two sons, Martin (Jeanette) Rod of Amboy and Mark Rod of La Moille; thirteen grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one brother, Ralph Rod of Princeton; one sister-in-law, Patricia Rod of Mendota and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Eric Rod; two brothers, James and Alfred and two sisters-in-law, Pat Rod and Bobbie Rod.
Visitation will be Friday, August 5, 2016 from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut and Saturday, August 6, 2016 from 9:00-10:00 A.M. at the Ohio First Lutheran Church.
