Robert J. Gugerty Sr., 77, of Tinley Park died Saturday, May 20, 2017, at his home.
Bob was born Aug. 2, 1939, in Princeton, the son of Bernard E. and Mary Charlotte (Johnson) Gugerty.
He attended high school in Ohio, Ill., and received his Bachelor of Arts from St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve. In his early career, he worked for the Chicago Tribune, He continued his rewarding media sales career in New York for many years before he retired as a successful real estate professional in the Chicago area in 2010.
Bob was a loyal friend and loved his family very much. He was an avid sports fan; he especially loved the Chicago White Sox. He was a curious learner and a great cook. He loved to have a good time with friends, enjoyed a good story, told the best jokes and was dedicated to his grandkids.
He is survived by one daughter, Jennifer (Brian) Goodrich of Napa, Calif.; one son, Robert (Jill) Gugerty Jr. of Campbell, Calif.; five grandchildren, Sarah, Carson, Jaden, Mary Charlotte and Laura Rose; one sister, Anne (Bill) Huber of Laguna Beach, Calif.; one brother, Thomas (Kay) Gugerty of Charlotte, N.C.; one brother-in-law, Dean Mills of Aurora, Color.; and several nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Patricia (Dean) Mills of Aurora, Colo.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A time of sharing will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 1, at the Immaculate Conception Church of Ohio followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Father Thomas Shaw, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Chicago White Sox Foundation.

Evangeline M. Guither - 944/23/1923 - 5/19/2017
Evangeline M. Guither, age 94 of Walnut, passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2017. Evangeline was born in Ohio, IL on April 23, 1923 to Henry and Harriet (Martin) Albrecht. She was a 1940 graduate of Ohio High School, attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and remained a lifelong participant in U of I Extension programs. She joined the US Army Signal Corps during WWII, serving as a Teletype inspector at Western Electric where she met lifelong friends, Eddie and Ann Dell. She was united in marriage to Marvin B. Guither on March 3, 1946 at Red Oak Church in rural Walnut, where they lived and worked the family farm. He preceded her in death on August 7, 1995. Evangeline was a fourth-generation descendant of founders of Red Oak Church where she was a faithful lifetime member. She was a 72-year member of the Eastern Star and enjoyed being a school bus driver and an election judge for many years. She and Marvin hosted many exchange students and then visited them all in a trip that included Japan, Hong Kong, Tasmania, Malaysia, Afghanistan, Iran, and Finland. Evangeline deeply enjoyed her church activities, family vacations and reunions, her huge garden, fishing in Canada, and the coffee pot always on for family and friends. Evangeline found great joy in her family and will be deeply missed by her five children, Jim (Nancy) Guither of Hudson, Kendall (Kathy) Guither of Walnut, Bonnie Guither of Tampa, Melanie (Mike) Alwes of Normal and Harry (Alice) Guither of Walnut; nine grandchildren, Margo (Phillip) Mire, Jennie (Tim) Cruze, Ben (Julie) Guither, Dan (Jana) Guither, Becky Alwes, Marc (Katie) Alwes, Jim Alwes, Eric Guither and Holly (fiancé, Ben Wilkinson) Guither; ten great-grandchildren, Andy and Adam Mire, Timber and Cade Cruze, Kepi and Vivian Guither, Olivia and Maggie Guither, Leah and Luke Alwes; one brother-in-law, Harold Guither; foster sister, Freda Martin; lifelong friend, Miriam Rosene; cousins and numerous, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; son Dave Guither; son-in-law Lee Peabody; brothers Robert, Paul, John and Dean Albrecht; sister Mary Skelton and cousin Clarence Attig. Visitation will be Monday, May 22, 2017 from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut, Illinois. Funeral service will be Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at the Red Oak United Methodist Church, Walnut with Reverend Judy Giese officiating. Services will conclude with burial at Red Oak Cemetery in rural Walnut. Memorials may be made to Red Oak Church.

Marie Schulte, age 94, of Walnut, IL died Tuesday May 16, 2017 at Heritage Manor in Walnut. Marie was born on April 22, 1923 in Tampico the daughter of Otto and Margaret (Whyte) Von Holten. She was united in marriage to Albert J. Schulte on April 28, 1940 in Rock Falls, IL. He preceded her in death on March 20, 2000. Marie was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Ohio. She had taught Sunday school and was a member of the Church Circle. Marie was a very loving and devoted mother and grandmother who loved to witness her faith for the Lord. She is survived by three daughters Carolyn (Don) Wallace of Tampico, Joyce (Dean) Geldean of Harmon, Carla (Tim) Gonigam of Walnut; three sons Virgil (Judy) Schulte of Walnut, IL Marc (Carol) Schulte of Walnut, James (Cindy) Schulte of Ohio; one daughter-in-law Kathy Schulte of Peoria; 32 grandchildren; 69 great grandchildren; 8 great, great grandchildren; two sisters Margaret (Maynard) Parker and Euryth (Louis) Vickrey both of Walnut and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; one son, Jerry Schulte; one daughter, Judy Sidebottom; son-in-law, Steve Sidebottom; two sisters, Betty Ann Oberle and Ellen “Boots” Spencer; seven brothers, Leo, James, John, Richard, Gene, Bob and Don Von Holten. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 21, 2017 from 2:00 – 6:00 P.M. at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 22nd at 10:00 A.M. at the First Lutheran Church of Ohio with the Rev. Gene Vincent pastor officiating. Rockford, Illinois Leland Lester Wolfe, 94 formerly of Walnut, died Saturday, May 6, 2017 at his home in Rockford. Leland was born on April 25, 1923 in Walnut, the son of John and Daisy (Kimmel) Wolfe. He was a United States Army Veteran and served in WWII in communications. Leland married Gloria Pierson in 1945; she preceded him in death in 1962. He worked at International Harvester in Rock Falls and then retired from Chrysler in Belvedere as a tool and dye maker. Leland loved dancing, gardening and his Ham Radio. He is survived by his daughter, Diana Halley of Phoenix, Ariz; his sons James (Sandra) Wolfe of Nipomo, Cal and David Wolfe; three grandchildren, Lori Wolfe, Kristin Halley and Matthew Halley; five great grandchildren, Sabrina, David, Tawni, Logan and Jaida and three great, great grandchildren, Emma, Riley and Ava. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; five sisters, Margaret Wallis, Mildred Eldon, Irene Sidebottom, Avis Bousam, Norma Hobbs; three brothers, John, Ivan and Robert Wolfe and two grandchildren, Collin and Carrie Wolfe. Visitation will be on Monday, May 15, 2017 from 12:00-12:45 P.M. at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. Graveside service will follow at 1:00 P.M. at the Walnut Cemetery.

Dover, Illinois Harold W. Graff, age 85 of Dover, Ill, died Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Liberty Village in Princeton, Ill. Harold was born on Octber 14, 1931 in Chicago, the son of Harold and Mabel (Schwieman) Graff. He married Joan Frick on September 20, 1951. He is a United States Army Veteran and served in the Korean War from 1951-1953. Harold owned and operated “Hal’s 66 Service Station” and retired from Calumet City Public Works. He was a lifelong member of the Lion’s Club in Calumet City and Malden and also a member of the American Legion and VFW in Calumet City. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joan; four sons, Terrance (Linda) Graff of Walnut, Ill, Scott (Karen) Graff of Grant Park, Ill, Mark (Carol) Graff of Calumet City, Ill and Norman (Cindy) Graff of Chana, Ill; one sister, Arlene Ciesielski of Chicago and sister-in-law, Judy Graff of Benton Harbor, Mich; eight grandsons, Adam (Katrina), Brandon, Justin (Amy), Mitch (Jesselyn), Derek (Casey), Christopher (Megan), Jay and Steven and seven great grandchildren, Tanner, Conner, Hayden, Hunter, Kaylie, Breanna and Addison. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ken Graff. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 17, 2017 from 3:00-8:00 P.M. at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. Graveside service will be on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Ill. Arrangements were handled by the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut.
Robert H. Dale - 918/30/1925 - 4/24/2017
OHIO- Robert H. Dale, 91 of Ohio, died Monday, April 24, 2017 at Heritage Health Care in Walnut.
He was born on August 30, 1925 near New Bedford, IL, the son of John and Daphne (Draper) Dale and had served in the US Army during WWII from 1943 – 1946. He had been a lifelong farmer. He married Suzanne Andersen on September 11, 1949 in Walnut. She died July 21, 2016. Bob was a member of the First Christian Church in Walnut. He enjoyed fishing, working on crossword puzzles, playing bridge and was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan. He was an avid High School Football fan.
Survivors include one daughter, Barbara (Ronald) Von Holten of Walnut; four sons, James (Joyce) Dale of Amboy, William (Janelle) Dale of Geneseo, Joe (Chema) Dale of Arlington, VA and Thomas (Nancy) Dale of Geneseo; 12 grandchildren, Matthew, Joelle, Michael, Timothy, Kimberly, Thomas, Ilyas, Dileyli, Dylan, Megan, Cindy and Connie; and 20 great grandchildren, Joshua, Keiyana, Lia, Natasha, Samantha, Johnathon, Talon, Kaleah, Kaden, Huck, Sophia, Kayden, Jaron, Gabriel, Grant, Caleb, Evan, Cameron, Louis and Ayden.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his son, Ronald Dale; and his two brothers, Lawrence and Merle Dale.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 28, 2017 from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. The funeral will follow on Saturday at 10:00 A.M. in the funeral home, with Reverend Brian Moore, officiating. Burial with Military Honors will conclude at Union Cemetery in Ohio.

Shirley Mae Rod - 777/1/1939 - 4/20/2017
Rural Amboy, Illinois
Shirley Mae (Faber) Rod, age 77 of rural Amboy passed away on April 20, 2017 at Liberty Village in Princeton.
Shirley was born on July 1, 1939 and baptized in her family home near Maytown, IL to Henry and Rosalia (Meisel) Faber. She grew up in East Grove Twp where she helped on the farm and attended the one room Downey School and graduated from Amboy High School in 1957.
She married Donald Rod in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Clarion on September 22, 1957. She lived and farmed on her families farm in Maytown for a majority of her life and always had a large garden. She also lived on her husbands family farm from 1957 – 1968. In addition to being a farmers wife, she drove a school bus for Amboy School District, later working in house keeping at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton. She was a member of the 1st Lutheran Church of Ohio and served on the Altar Guild, past officer for the Ladies Circle and made the infamous potato salad for the annual sandwich supper. She was a past Maytown Comets 4H Leader and was an active member of the Bureau County Home Extension. She was an avid sewer, embroider, knitter, crocheter and quilter. She was known for her home made angel food cake. Her favorite trip was her and her husbands 25th anniversary trip to Switzerland.
Survivors include two daughters: Marilyn (Andy) Geiger of Sterling and Marcia (Robert) Hartwig of Princeton; two sons: Martin (Jeanette) Rod of Amboy and Mark Rod of LaMoille; 13 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; one brother in law Ralph Rod of Princeton; one sister in law Patricia Rod of Mendota and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2016; one grandson Eric Rod; two brothers in law and two sisters in law.
Visitation will be held on Sunday April 23, 2017 from 4-7 PM at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. The funeral will follow on Monday at 10 AM at the 1st Lutheran Church in Ohio with the Reverend Eugene Vincent officiating. Burial will conclude at the Van Orin Repose Cemetery.

Nicholas J. Asselborn - 7112/25/1945 - 4/12/2017
Ohio, Illinois Nicholas James Asselborn, age 71 of Ohio, died Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton. Nicholas was born on December 25, 1945 in Cicero Chicago, Ill., the son of Nicholas G. and Helen (Sauko) Asselborn. He attended Catholic schools. Nicholas was a United States Army Veteran and served in the War in Vietnam. He was married to Linda “LuLu” Carter from 1974-1994. Nicholas was a truck driver. He rode Harley Davidson Motorcycles. He enjoyed hunting and was an avid Green Bay Packer’s fan. He is survived by one son and his cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. Cremation rites have been accorded with the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. Per his wishes, there will be no services.
Sharon Gerdes - 647/13/1952 - 4/6/2017
Princeton, Illinois Sharon L. Gerdes, age 64, of rural Princeton and formerly of Walnut passed away peacefully on Thursday April 6, 2017 at her home after a two year courageous battle with cancer. Sharon was born on July 13, 1952 in Princeton, Illinois the daughter of Maynard and Margaret (VonHolten) Parker. She was educated in Walnut Schools and graduated from Walnut High School. She was united in marriage to Ed Gerdes on Aug. 2, 1980 at the First Lutheran Church of Ohio. She was a longtime employee of Walnut Grade School and Bureau Valley North Schools, retiring in 2014 as office secretary. Many times you would see a young student who was ill sitting on her lap in the office waiting for Mom or Dad to come. Many young students would arrive at school in the morning and stop at the office to get a hug from Mrs. Gerdes before heading to their classroom. After retirement she spent time volunteering for the after school program, the exploratory classes and other school activities. She had been a volunteer with the Walnut Fire Department and was a certified EMT and had completed some advanced paramedic training. She is survived by her husband Ed Gerdes of Princeton, IL; her parents Maynard and Margaret Parker of Walnut, IL; one daughter Tonya (Mike) Besler of Ohio, IL; one son Nicholas Gerdes of Walnut, IL; two stepdaughters Robin (Douglas) Noble of Charlotte, NC, Rebecca (Kevin) Woody of Marietta, GA; two stepsons John (Mary) Gerdes of Green Cove Springs, FL, Matthew (Jennifer) Gerdes of Western Springs, IL; 10 grandchildren; one sister Charlene (Bill) Frankenreider of Annawan, IL; one brother Douglas (Lori) Parker of Normal, IL; one special niece Amber (John) Dalziel of Ripon, WI; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, and one brother in law Herb Gerdes. Visitation will be held on Sunday April 9,2017 from 4 to 7p.m. at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday April 10, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church of Ohio with the Rev. Eugene Vincent, pastor officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Cemetery. Walnut, Illinois Kevin D. Larkey, age 56, of Walnut, died Monday, April 3, 2017, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Kevin was born June 30, 1960 in Morrison the son of Dale and Nancy (Dennes) Larkey. Farming was his passion and he served the Walnut area his entire life. Kevin was an Oliver collector, a Harley Davidson enthusiast, and an avid St. Jude supporter. He hosted many biennial antique tractor and corn picking shows. Survivors include two daughters, Sarah (Gregory) Johnson of Metamora and Kelsey (Joshua Kessinger) Larkey of Normal; one brother, Loren (Jennifer) Larkey of Gatesville, TX; one granddaughter, Neva Johnson of Metamora; and his significant other, Susan Thole of Elderidge, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be Friday, April 7, 2017, from 4 – 7 PM at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. Memorial services will be private at a later date.
