Walnut, IL Larry Eugene Wilcoxen was born July 6, 1936 in Rapatee, IL to Steve and Nora (Lenzi) Wilcoxen. He passed away July 2, 2016 at Heritage Health in Walnut. Larry married Judith Ann (Tuttle) on August 9, 1957 in Farmington, IL. Their children are Ken (Sally) Wilcoxen of Princeton, IL and Mendy (Steve) Conner of Ohio, IL. Grandchildren are Kris (Sarah) Wilcoxen of Walnut, Anna Wilcoxen, Johnna Jacobson, and Lindsay Jacobson and great grandson, Ethan Turpen. Brothers are Dan (Leann) Wilcoxen of Peru, IL, Terry Wilcoxen of Laura, IL, and Tom (Tammy) Mattson of Farmington, IL. Sisters are Lynn (Mark) Voland of Farmington, IL and Debby (Jeff). Sister-in-law is Patty Wilcoxen. There are many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Steve; one sister, Mary Jean; and one sister-in-law, Mona. Larry graduated from Farmington High School and Knox College with a Bachelor of Arts. He also graduated from Bradley University with a Masters of Arts and Western Illinois University with a Certificate of Advanced Study. Larry enjoyed his chosen field of education as a teacher, coach, principal and superintendent starting in Bradford and then moving up the road to Deer Grove and then Tampico. He also coached scholastic bowl. After his retirement, he spent his time as an interim superintendent for Tiskilwa, Neponset, Ohio and Malden. He was a member of the Walnut United Methodist Church where he taught adult Sunday School for several years. He was President of the Walnut Park District since its start in 1973 and inductee of the Walnut Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame. He spent 25 years on the IESA Board, was a 2 term board member for Bureau Valley School, a member of the Rock River Officials Association and spent years as assignment chairman for the Indian Valley Conference. He was an IHSA official for 55 years being inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame, Bureau County Hall of Fame, National High School Sports Hall of Fame, Illinois Coaches Association Softball Hall of Fame and received the National Federation of Interscholastic Officials Association Distinguished Service Award. He was fortunate enough to work state playoffs in football, boys and girls basketball, baseball and softball. He was always proud to let people know he had worked 6,743 contests. Larry was a diehard Cubs fan and enjoyed going to Chicago with any family member of friends he could get to go along with him. Memorials have been established to the Walnut Park District, Heritage Health in Walnut, Tampico Historical Museum and Walnut United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Thursday, July 7, 2016 from 5 – 8 PM and Friday, July 8, 2016 from 10 – 11 AM at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. Funeral services will be Friday at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Reverend Mark Harkness of Walnut United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Walnut Cemetery.

Walnut WALNUT – Donna Jean Goodale, age 90, passed away peacefully Sunday June 26, 2016 at Heritage Health Nursing Home, Walnut surrounded by her family and wonderful caregivers. Donna was born on July 15, 1925 in Kewanee the daughter of William and Lenora (Kolberg) Gutschlag. She was united in marriage to James M. Goodale on May 18, 1947 in Kewanwee. He preceded her in death on April 11, 2007. She worked as a secretary until she married Jim. She was a member of Walnut United Methodist Church and the Eastern Star. Donna was an avid golfer and played at the Green River Country Club where she was a member. She enjoyed teaching her children and grandchildren the game. Donna loved to dance and enjoyed the outdoors. She enjoyed reading , crewel and doing ceramics. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandma. Survivors include two sons, Marty (Faye Jankovich) J. Goodale of Sun Lake, Ariz. and Jamie (Debbie) Goodale of Crystal Lake; two daughters, Christine (Rick) Norris of Moline and Katherine (Paul) Von Holten of Bristol; one sister, Elaine Kelm of Sheffield; one brother, William Gutschlag of Cathedral City, Calif.; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, Robert A. Gutschlag. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 29, 2016 from 5-7:00 pm at the Garland Funeral Home, Walnut. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Thursday, June 30, 2016 at the funeral home with Reverend Mark Harkness of Walnut Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Kewanee. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the Walnut Fire Department and Walnut United Methodist Church.

Dixon, IL Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Hoover, age 84 of Dixon, died Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at KSB Hospital in Dixon. Betty was born on December 5, 1931 in Princeton, the daughter of Philip and Alberta (Bolbock) Spohn. She retired from KSB after working for many years in the transcription department. Betty was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Dixon. Survivors include her daughter, Nancy (Jose) Castillo of Dallas, TX; two sisters, Louise (Richard) Yob of Milwaukee, WI and Marilyn (Clarence) Blaine of Sublette, IL; one brother, Don (Georgine) Spohn of Ohio, IL; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Marilyn Hoover. A Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 27, 2016 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Anne Catholic Church in Dixon, with the Rev. Antoni Kretowicz officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be from 9:00-10:00 A.M. at the church. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Ohio, IL. Garland Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Walnut, IL Nancy Lee (Andersen) Christensen passed away in her home at 101 Clark Street, Walnut, on May 25, 2016. Nancy Lee was born the second daughter to Fern Amelia (Peach) and Harvey Andersen of rural Walnut. She was marred to Richard A. Christensen on October 7, 1956, at the Walnut First Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and her brother Harold Lewis ‘Tim’ Andersen. Nancy enjoyed a 24-year career in banking and was devoted to her community, but enjoyed her family more than anything. Nancy was blessed with four loving daughters, Laurel Christensen and Gerald Henderson of Huntington Beach, CA; Katherine (Daniel) Johnson of Malden, IL; Julia Christensen and Kevin Hufnagel of Walnut, IL; Deborah (Doug) Davis of Castle Rock, CO; four incredible granddaughters, Stephaney, Stacey, Andrea and Victoria one gorgeous great- granddaughter, Celestia; and three amazing great-grandsons, Bruce, Dominic, and Daniel; all of whom will miss her terribly. Survivors include four sisters, Betty Sissel of Princeton, Janice Hansen of Princeton, Karen (Bill) Lind of Walnut, Mary (Larry) Bartman of Ottawa, and one sister-in-law, Betty (Hardy) Andersen of Ohio. Services will be held at Garland Funeral Home, Walnut, at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 28, with visitation prior, from 9 until 11 a.m. Interment will be at the Walnut cemetery friends and family welcome. Mendota, IL Josephine Barber, age 91, of Mendota, died Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Mendota Lutheran Home. Josephine was born March 9, 1925 in Koncanica, Yugoslavia the daughter of Frank and Anna (Hledik) Holubek. She married Frank Barber on December 15, 1946 in Chicago. He preceded her in death on May 25, 1986. She was employed at Sanofi Drug in Des Plaines for many years until her retirement. Josephine enjoyed cooking, baking and quilting. Survivors include one daughter, Judy (Greg) Foster of Wautoma, Wis.; one son, Gary (Kim) Barber of Mendota; two sisters, Emily Bayus of Port Perry, Ontario and Mary Vukman of Emerald, Saskatchewan; four grandchildren, Greg, Jr. (Kim) Foster of Kenosha, Wis., Dan (Michelle) Foster of Wales, Wis., Kate (Johnathan) Hagenbuch of Utica and Kari (Daniel) Lutter of Richfield, Wis.; ten great grandchildren; and her dear friend, Adele Svacina. She was preceded in death by her husband; one brother, Louis; and two sisters. A private graveside service will take place at a later date. Walnut, IL Cecilia “Cis” Jean Fuertges, age 67 of Walnut, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 13, 2016 surrounded by family at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Cis was born on August 9, 1948 in Chicago, IL the daughter of Joseph and Lucille (Jusan) Podraza. She graduated from Morton West High School in Berwyn, IL and then from Presbyterian –St. Luke’s Hospital, School of Radiologic Technology. She received an Associate in Applied Science Degree from Sauk Valley Community College and was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society. Cecilia married Dr. Daniel B. Fuertges on August 3, 1968 at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Berwyn, IL. She last worked as a Medical Transcriptionist for Princeton Family Physicians. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Walnut, a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, former CCD teacher and assisted at the annual Bazaar. In 2012 she was honored by the Peoria Diocesan Council of Catholic Women for her service to the Diocese of Peoria and her parish church. She also had been a Cub Scout den mother and was a developer of Pre-K school in Walnut. One of the highlights of her life was a trip to the Holy Land in 2008. She loved her grandchildren and especially going on trips with them and attending their school and church programs. Survivors include her husband, Daniel of Walnut, IL; three daughters, Erinn (Joseph) Crane of Davenport, IA, Heather Fuertges of Davenport, IA and Julie (Jason) Hoffman of Orion, IL; son, Daniel H. Fuertges of West Peoria, IL; grandchildren, Alex Barman, Melanie Comer, Xavier Crane, Shelby and Noelle Hoffman and step grandson, Dylan Crane and brother, Joseph Podraza of Brooklyn, NY. Funeral prayer services will be conducted on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at 9:30 A.M. at Garland Funeral Home in Walnut, followed by the Celebration of Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Walnut at 10:00 A.M. with the Rev. James "Jay" Dunn - 91

Princeton, IL PRINCETON - James D. “Jay” Dunn, 91, of Princeton, formerly of Ohio and Tonica, died Friday, May 13, 2016, at Liberty Village in Princeton. Born March 29, 1925, in Sublette, he was a son of James J. and Genevieve (Fitzpatrick) Dunn. He was united in marriage to JoAnn Tucker on July 29, 1950, in Ohio, Ill. She preceded him in death on July 13, 1968. He then married Betty Rooney Fundell in 1973. She preceded him in death in 1978. He then married Mildred Grubb McCloud in 1980. She preceded him in death in 2013. In 1930 while attending a family reunion at Lowell Park in Dixon, he fell off of a dock into the Rock River and was saved by Ronald Reagan, who was the life guard on duty at the time. He attended the Daven School in East Grove Township, Lee County, and graduated from Amboy High School in 1942. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture from the University of Illinois in 1950. He owned and operated the Ohio Grain Company from 1954 until about 1970. An early adopter of no-till farming, he was once named Lee County Conservation Farmer of the Year. He was an antique car enthusiast and an amateur radio operator. Jay was among those who successfully advocated for the straightening of the dangerous S curve on Route 26 south of Ohio more than 40 years ago. Jay worked as an industrial electrician at Donaldson Company from 1974-1976 and at Air Products and Chemicals from 1976 until his retirement in 1990. He enjoyed singing and was a longtime member of the Bureau County Barber Shop Chorus. He was a catechism teacher at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Leonore. He was a former member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ohio. He resided in Ohio from 1958-1985 when he and Millie moved to Tonica. His family will most remember his kind and gentle nature as well as his dry sense of humor. Those left to honor his memory include his daughters, Shauna M. Dunn (Paul Gyorok) of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and Carole E. (Mike) Vaughn of Princeton; a son, James H. “Jim” (Jamie) Dunn of Ohio; 8 grandchildren, Rebecca Dunn (Matt Quigley) of Petersburg, Joseph (Angel) Dunn of Princeton, Michael (Elizabeth) Dunn of Boynton Beach, Fla., Jeffrey Dunn of Dongguan City, China, Angela (Nathan) Baldwin of Ballwin, Mo., Missy Dunn of Ohio, Lindsay Vaughn (James Van Fleet) of Princeton and Devin Vaughn (Dr. Christie Hancock) of Chicago; 3 great grandchildren, Ethan, Aubrey and Owen Dunn; 2 brothers, Gerald (Anita) Dunn of Walnut and Robert Dunn of San Francisco, Calif.; several nieces, a nephew, great nieces and nephews; three step granddaughters, Amy (Kirk) Stevens, Sheila McMann (Steve Wall) and Gennene (Christopher) Ching; and six step great grandchildren, Ty, Madlyn, Ryan, Devon, Delaney, and Josey. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Sister Elizabeth, OSB, and several step children. Private services have been held. Sharon was born on January 16,1945 in Princeton, IL, the daughter of Vernon and Elma (Cryer) Bruder. She was united in marriage to Larry Cady on February 21, 1965 in Tampico, IL. Sharon worked at the Tampico Post Office as a clerk for 34 years and was a member of the Tampico United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband Larry Cady of Tampico, IL; three sons David (Mary) Cady of Tampico, IL, Michael (Kimberly) Cady of Tampico, IL , Steve Cady of Sterling, IL; 8 grandchildren, one step granddaughter; two step-great grandchildren; one great grandchild; two sisters Donna Radake of Tampico, IL, Nancy (George) Tornow of Tampico, IL; one brother Dennis (Dorothy) Bruder of Tampico, IL and numerous nieces and nephews. Roger was born on August 12, 1935 in Alantic, IA, the son of George and Pearle (Kerkmann) Frank. He attended Atlantic public schools and graduated from Iowa State University in 1958. He served in the United States Army Reserves. He was united in marriage to Emily Miller on November 7, 1959 in Elgin, Illinois. Roger was a charter member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Walnut for 50 years where he served on the church council and various boards. He served on the Walnut Grade School Board for 12 years and was a lifelong farmer in the Harmon area for 50 years before retiring and moving to Rock Falls in 2000. In retirement, he volunteered for the VITAL program at Sauk Valley Community College and Roger also enjoyed reading and golfing. He is survived by his wife Emily Frank of Rock Falls, IL; two sons Timothy Frank of Clinton, IA, Thomas (Laurie) Frank of Rock Falls, IL. Roger was also a loving and devoted grandfather to Lindsey, Brady, Nolan, Aaron, and Hailey Frank. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, April 25, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Walnut with the Rev. David Menet officiating. She is survived by her mother Betty Hoover of Dixon, IL; one sister Nancy (Jose) Castillo of Dallas, TX; several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father. Cremation rites were accorded. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Abiding Word Church in Sterling, IL, with Rev. Scott Porter, Pastor, officiating.
