Tracy J. DeWaele, age 52, of Princeton, IL died Saturday September 5, 2015 at her home.
Tracy was born on September 28, 1962 in Princeton, IL; the daughter of Donald G. and Joyce A. (Martin) Sergeant. She was a secretary at Winter Sports in Ohio, and also worked at Peerless Level in Walnut, Amboy Nursing Home, the Dairy Queen in Amboy and Beggs Grocery store in Amboy. Tracy volunteered for Amboy ESDA for many years. She was a member of the New Hope Church of the Nazarene in Princeton, IL.
She is survived by one son Joshua DeWaele of Amboy, IL; her father Donald Sergeant of Walnut, IL; two sisters Terry (Norm) Vandermoon of Princeton, IL, Tammy Chamberlain of Walnut, IL; one brother Jim Sergeant of Princeton, IL; several nephews ; and several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents and mother.
Cremation rites were accorded. Burial of cremains will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Princeton. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Princeton High Rise 444 S Church St. Princeton, IL. A memorial has been established to an Educational Fund for Joshua DeWaele.
John A. Mitchell - 994/11/1916 - 9/2/2015
John A. Mitchell of Rock Falls, formerly of Tampico, became "God's Carpenter" on September 2, 2015 at the age of 99.
John A. Mitchell was born April 11, 1916 in Hooper, Nebraska, the second oldest of eight children born to Frank & Cora Agnes (Renninger) Mitchell. He married Maxine Rasmussen in 1938; they had three children: Jack, Ronald, and Connie. In 1939 John had to leave his family in Nebraska to seek work and hitch-hiked his way to Illinois. Upon finding work at the Stauffer Dairy Farm, south of Rock Falls, he sent for his family. In 1941 John began working at Northwestern Steel & Wire in the maintenance department of the west plant. He was often known as “P.W.’s boy," as he was often called in to fix things others could not. He retired in 1978 after 37 years. In 1973, John married Mildred (Renner) Smith and became a step-father to son, Reiley Smith. John spent the years after retiring from NWSW working as "Mr. Fix It” around Tampico and at the Whiteside County Senior Center. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Tampico and served as a trustee. A member of the Tampico Lions Club, John was celebrated in 2008 for being the oldest member in the district. In 2009, he was honored as the Grand Marshall of the Tampico Days parade. The greatest joy of his life were his seventeen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and especially his six great-great-grandchildren. He had been looking forward to the 2016 birth of his seventh great-great-grandchild. There were also countless neighbors and friends who called him "Grandpa" as well.

Visitation will be 10:00am at First United Methodist Church of Tampico, with a service following at 11:00am on Saturday with the Rev. Leanne Keate, pastor officiating. Gladys A. Rombout, age 97, of the rural Manlius area died Thursday, August 27, 2015 at Country Comfort Retirement Home in Princeton, IL.
Gladys was born on April 10, 1918 in Ashton, IL, the daughter of George
Clarence and Mary Martha (Kepple) Hadley. She was united in marriage to August Rombout on March 15, 1938 in Davenport, IA. He preceded her in death on November 8, 2005. Gladys was superintendent of Sheffield United Methodist Church Sunday School program and was instrumental in developing the Senior Citizens Society in Manlius and enjoyed organizing the trips. She was a member of Sheffield United Methodist Church for many years and lately a member of the Walnut Community Bible Church. She was a loving mom and grandma.
She is survived by one son Larry George (Sandie) Rombout of Florid, IL; two daughters Deanna Marie (Ronald) Nelson of Freeport, IL, Linette (Ray) Bolin of Wyanet, IL; five grandchildren Larry Douglas Rombout, Dennis Alan Rombout, Melissa (Jim) Mennie, Elizabeth (Jerad) Klingenberg, Jason (Kendyl) Bolin; ten great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren; one great great great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son David John, and two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday Aug. 31st at 1 p.m. at the Walnut Community Bible Church with the Rev. Eldon Cook pastor officiating. Burial will be in Manlius Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. Gladys McKenzie, age 96, of Walnut, Illinois died Sunday August 23, 2015 at Heritage Health Care in Walnut.
Gladys was born on August 9, 1919 in Spring Valley, Illinois the daughter of James and Gertrude (Guenther) Dwyre. She was united in marriage to John McKenzie on February 24, 1953 in Spring Valley, Illinois. He preceded her in death on October 28, 2006. She was an organist at First Congregation Church in Spring Valley, played in the Walnut Kitchen Band years ago, was choir leader at First Christian Church of Walnut. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Walnut and the CFW at the church and the Order of the Eastern Star of Princeton.
There are no immediate survivors.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday August 26th at 10:30 a.m. at the Yorktown Cemetery in Tampico, Illinois with the Rev. Brian Moore, pastor of the First Christian Church, officiating. William E. Ryan, age 81, of Sterling, Illinois died Sunday, August 23, 2015 at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.
Bill was born on January 29, 1934 in Sterling, Illinois, the son of Joseph J. Sr. and Martha (Johnson) R.N. Ryan. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Shirley A. Harden on February 18, 1958 at St. Mary’s Church in Clinton, Iowa. He worked at Northwestern Steel and Wire in the furnace department.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Ryan of Sterling, Illinois; one brother- in law George Logan of Rock Falls, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one stillborn daughter, two sisters Patricia Logan, Margaret Ann Coble, one brother Joseph J. Ryan Jr., and one foster sister Marge Selpein Collins.

Linda K. Brooks, age 62, of Walnut, IL died Friday August 14, 2015 at CGH Medical Center in Sterling. Linda was born on April 8, 1953 in Princeton, Illinois, the daughter of Delmar and Margaret (Ziegler) Monson. She was united in marriage to Gary Brooks on October 19, 1975 in New Bedford, Illinois. Linda and Gary owned and operated the Walnut Leader Newspaper and Print Shop for 40 years. She was a member of the Walnut Methodist Church, the Walnut American Legion Auxiliary, and the Walnut Chamber. Linda was a past president of the Walnut Woman’s Club, Rotary Club and Walnut Chamber of Commerce. She was very active in the Walnut community.
She is survived by her husband Gary Brooks of Walnut, IL; her stepchildren Darla (Steve) Rangel of Prophetstown, IL, Brian Brooks of Ozarks, Missouri, Sandra (Rick) Whiles of Hurdland, Missouri, eight step-grandchildren; 15 step- great grandchildren three sisters, Lola Olds of Raytown, MO, Karla Garland of Paw Paw, Illinois; Nyla (Steve) Arnold of Buda, IL; three brothers Randy Monson and Neil Monson both of Walnut, Illinois Russ (Linda) Monson of Manlius, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Martha Jane in infancy and one niece.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Malden United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mark Harkness, pastor of Walnut United Methodist Church officiating. Francis (Ronald) Benevento, age 71, of Walnut, Illinois died Wednesday August 12, 2015 at his home. Ron was born October 5, 1943 in Marlboro, New York the only child of Rocco and Lena (D’Aretta) Benevento. Ron graduated from college with a degree in electronics engineering. He worked in this field for several years and then started in the construction field and then a woodworking shop. He and his wife Roberta opened R&R Woodworking in 1986 and retired in 2010. Ron and Roberta were active members of the Green River Country club for many years, enjoying all golfing activities, parties and cocktails. Come fall, Ron became a full time Deer Hunter. He loved to hunt with deer being his favorite.
He is survived by; his wife Roberta Benevento; one stepdaughter Angie Carl; One daughter Lisa (Steve) Hardy;one son Ronald (Diana) R. Benevento all of Walnut, Illinois; 11 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and one sister & brother-in-law; Pam & Brian Allen.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Tampico Harold O. Wetzell, age 91, of Tampico, Illinois, died Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at CGH Medical Center in Sterling. Harold was born December 23, 1923 in Tampico, the son of Oscar and Orient (Olds) Wetzell. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Lewis on September 5, 1948 in Rock Falls, Illinois. Harold farmed in the Tampico area in his lifetime and was a Tampico School bus driver. He was a member of the Tampico United Methodist Church, the Scottish Rite Cathedral of Moline, Illinois, the Prophetstown Masonic Lodge #293AF&AM and the Order of the Eastern Star Minerva Chapter 6. Harold was a member of the Illinois Farm Bureau, Tampico Historical Society and the Tampico School Board for many years. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Tampico; two daughters, Dorothy (Dennis) Bruder of Tampico and Patricia (Larry Gerlach) Etheridge of Tampico; two sons, Mark (Mary) Wetzell of Tampico and David Wetzell of Tampico; eleven grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and four sisters. Visitation will be held Friday, August 7, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. until 12 noon prior to the service at the Tampico United Methodist Church. Masonic services will take place at 12:00 noon with the funeral services to follow. Burial will take place in Tampico Memorial Cemetery. A memorial has been established in his memory.

Tampico, IL Elizabeth A. Van Landuit, age 69, of Tampico, Illinois died Tuesday August 4, 2015 at her home. Elizabeth was born October 20, 1945 in Morrison, Illinois, the daughter of Oscar and Mary (Heeren) Pletsch. She was united in marriage to Lawrence Van Landuit on April 11, 1964 in Tampico. He preceded her in death on November 18, 2001. She worked at The Dutch Diner, managed Casey’s General Store and drove school bus for Tampico Schools. She was the Tampico township clerk and a high school music booster for many years. Elizabeth taught Catechism classes, was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by four sons, Lawrence J. (Annette) Van Landuit of Sterling, IL, Kevin (Jennifer) Van Landuit of Carl Junction, MO, Thomas (Marilynn) Van Landuit of Fayetteville, NC and Ryan Van Landuit of Tampico, IL; one daughter, Carrie Van Landuit of Tampico, IL; 15 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; 4 brothers, Jim Pletsch of Sterling, IL, Gary Pletsch of Pittsburgh, PA, David (Lola) Pletsch of Sterling, IL, and Dan (Vicky) Pletsch of Normal, IL; 3 sisters, Connie DeMaranville of Geneseo, IL, Debbie (Bob) Define of Lake St. Louis, MO, and Diane (Barry) DeJarnatt of Sterling, IL and numerous nieces and nephews.
