Dixon, IL James B. Harper, age 67, of Dixon, Illinois died Thursday, February 25, 2016 at his home. James was born December 9, 1948 in Princeton, Illinois, the son of Bruce and Dorothy (Fritz) Harper. He was united in marriage to Arlene Doctor on June 3, 1979 in Madison, Wisconsin. Jim graduated from Walnut Community High School in Walnut, Illinois and Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon, Illinois and attended Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois. He worked at JC Penney in Sterling, Illinois and Atherton Grain in Walnut, Illinois during his lifetime. Jim served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dixon and played on the church softball team. He is survived by his wife, Arlene of Dixon, IL; one daughter, Ashley Harper of Batavia , IL; one granddaughter, Kalli Grant of Batavia, IL; 4 brothers, Richard (Amber) Harper of Walnut, IL, Steven (Ronda) Harper of Sterling, IL, Jerry Fritz of Walnut, IL and Jonnie Fritz of Rock Falls, IL; one sister, Mary Ann (Carl) Von Holten of Walnut, IL and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. A visitation will be Sunday, March 6, 2016 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Dixon. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 7, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Garland Funeral Home, Walnut with Rev. Tim Mitchell, Pastor, officiating with a visitation from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will take place in Walnut Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Walnut American Legion Post # 179. A memorial has been established in his memory.

Walnut, IL Eileen L. Dufelmeier Burkey, age 91, formerly of Walnut, passed away at Prairieview Lutheran Home in Danforth, Illinois on February 19, 2016. She was born on August 26, 1924 in Arenzville, Illinois, the daughter of Harry and LaVerna Hierman Dufelmeier. She graduated from Illinois College in Jacksonville, and taught in Milledgeville, Beardstown, and Walnut. She married Willard Kessler Burkey on November 17, 1957, and they lived and farmed in rural Walnut. He preceded her in death on May 24, 2007. Mrs. Burkey is survived by her daughter, Ann Burkey Brezinski, son-in-law Dr. Thomas Brezinski, granddaughter, Katharine Brezinski, sister-in-law Shirley Dufelmeier, and nieces Betty Schmoldt, Barbara Davenport, and Jane McKean. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brothers Raymond Dufelmeier and Melvin Dufelmeier, sister Sarah Dufelmeier, nephew David Dufelmeier, and sister-in-law Josie Dufelmeier. A visitation will be held at the Walnut United Methodist Church on Sunday, February 21, 2016 from noon to 2:00, with the funeral service at the church at 2 p.m. on Sunday with the Rev. Mark Harkness pastor officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Illinois College, or Prairieview Lutheran Home. Tampico, IL Josephine M. Coers, age 91, of Tampico, IL died Friday February 19, 2016 at CGH Medical Center in Sterling. She was born on November 29, 1924 at Mile Nine Elevator House the daughter of Garnet and Doris (Howland) Price. She was united in marriage to Russell Coers Sr. on September 2, 1944 in Rock Falls, Illlinois. Josephine was a homemaker. She is survived by her husband Russell Coers of Tampico, IL; two sons Russell Coers Jr. of Tampico; Lester F. (Sandy) Coers of Savanna; three daughters Judith Cox of Rock Falls; Ann (John) Schlosser of Polo, Donna (Richard) Schlosser of Tampico; 16 grandchildren; 21 great grandchild and two great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son Gary Coers, one niece Jaylee and one nephew Ricky Wayne. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Garland Funeral Home in Tampico with the Rev. Karl Kaiser of The Tampico Baptist Church, pastor officiating. Princeton, IL Evelyn Suzanne Kresal, age 91, of Princeton, IL and formerly of Racine, WI, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at the Heritage Manor to join her late husband, William, for their 70th wedding anniversary. Evelyn was born in Milwaukee on July 13, 1924. She was raised in Racine by her loving parents, George and Helen Hazelton. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, William F. Kresal, on April 6, 1946 at Grace Baptist Church. She went on to raise her three children, Suzanne (Terrence) Cortez, William Jr. (Patsy Jo) and Linda Kloc in Racine before moving to Schaumburg, IL. While living in Schaumburg she became the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren. Evelyn along with her husband retired to the small town of Princeton, IL. There she celebrated her 50th anniversary with her husband, William. She also welcomed two grandchildren, 24 great- grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Joseph Miller. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband William, son-in-law Thomas Kloc, grandson Dereck Cortez and great- granddaughter Adrianna Cortez. Mom you will be missed dearly by us all. You were our sunshine our only sunshine, you made us happy when skies were grey, you’ll never know dear how much we loved you, please don’t take our sunshine away. Walnut, IL Jul E. Adams-Watkins, age 63, passed away at her residence in Walnut, IL on February 4th, 2016. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eldon and Velma Adams, Tampico, IL and a brother, William of Prophetstown. She is survived by her husband, David Watkins, one sister Marjorie (Saathoff) of Jupiter FL, and brothers Robert (Mary) of Chillicothe, Douglas (Brenda) of Tampico, Michael of Palm Beach Gardens FL, Gregory of Rock Falls, Francis (Laura) of Silvis, David (Jenny) of Tampico and many close-knit nieces, nephews , and cousins. Jul attended Newman Central Catholic High School, Sterling, IL and went on to earn her degree at Northern Illinois University. She was retired from Kreider Services, Dixon, IL where she had been the Director of Public Relations. She donated her body to science to further medical research and education. There will be no graveside services. A “Celebration of Life” memorial service will be held on February 20th, 2016 at 10 AM. The service will be at The Next Picture Show, a fine arts center, located at 113 W. 1st Street, Dixon, IL. Memorial fund has been established to Kreider Services.

Tampico, Illinois Daryl C. Smiley, age 76, of Tampico, IL died Saturday January 30, 2016 at Unity Point Health in Rock Island, IL. Daryl was born on September 29, 1939 in Joilet, IL the son of Clyde and Helen (Meredith) Smiley. He was united in marriage to Judy Washburn on June 1, 1968 in Bloomington, IL. He was a coach and educator for 50 years that included teaching at Mount Carroll for 3 years, Tampico High School for 28 years, and Sauk Valley Community College for 17 years. Daryl was a member of the Tampico United Methodist Church and he played slow pitch softball for many years. He was inducted in to the IHSA Hall of Fame in 1996. He is survived by his wife Judy Smiley of Tampico, IL; three children Maryl (Chris) Brennen of Villa Hills, KY, Ellen (Travis) Hanrahan of Prophetstown, IL , Mark (Penelope) Smiley of Hartland, WI; eight grandchildren; one sister Sue (Tally) Girard of Shorewood, IL; one sister in law Joanne (Jack) Latimer of Inyokern, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Cremation rites were accorded. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 5, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Tampico United Methodist Church with the Rev. Leanne Keates pastor officiating. A Time of Sharing will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2016 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Tampico Elementary School gym, 304 East Kimball Tampico, IL. A memorial has been established to the Tampico United Methodist Church and the Tampico Fire and Ambulance in lieu of flowers. The Garland Funeral Home of Tampico is handling arrangements.

Tampico, Illinois Emma Elizabeth Kropf,100, of Tampico, passed away at her home under hospice care and with family caretakers by her side on Mon., Jan. 18, 2016. She was born Dec. 25, 1915, at Shelbyville, IL to Levi and Amanda (Yoder) Kropf. Emma relocated with her parents to Bureau County, where she lived since 1941, helping out at home and at the homes of her siblings and other family members as needed until the death of her parents after which, she moved to a mobile home close to her sister, Mrs. Joe Kropf. She was a member of the Fairfield Amish Mennonite Church near Tampico. She is survived by 2 sisters, Wilma Hostetler, Sedalia, MO, Ruth Hostetler, Clarksville, AR, and 1 sister- in-law, Lily Kropf, Buffalo, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents, 6 brothers, Simon, Raymond, Allen, Dave, Daniel and Owen and 4 sisters, Mrs. Mabel Kauffman, Mrs. Edna Shrock, Mrs. Alice Kropf and Ida Kropf, who died at the age of 3. Visitation hours will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wed. Jan. 20, 2016 at the Fairfield A.M. School, Tampico. Funeral Services will be Thursday morning Jan. 21, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the Fairfield A.M. Evelyn was born on October 28, 1947 in Sterling, Illinois the daughter of Wilbur and Mary (Cisketti) Kober She was united in marriage to Norman "Skip" Konneck. She married Dennis Driessens on February 24, 1978 in Morrison, Illinois. He preceded her in death on July 10, 2015. She and Dennis owned and operated the 5th Quarter in Tampico for nine years. Evelyn enjoyed riding the Harley and was a member of Abate. She is survived by one son Scott (Dana) Konneck of Sheffield, Illinois; one stepson Kevin (Trinda) Driessens of Sterling, Illinois; one stepdaughter ReAnn Holbrock of Colona, Illinois; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; three sisters Janis (Gene) Little of Rockford, Illinois, Linda (Joe) Bright of Sterling, Illinois, Debbie (Larry) Richmond of Manchester, Iowa and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, two sisters Karen and Marsha. Cremation rites were accorded. Private services will be conducted at a later date. Steven was born September 5, 1949 in Tacoma, Washington, the son of Marlowe and Deloris (Norton) Peterson. He was united in marriage to Kathy Tornow on September 16, 2000 in Walnut, Illinois. Steven worked as a truck driver (or as he would like to call it “a Commodities Relocation Engineer) for over 50 years. He retired and last worked for Sullivan’s Foods. He is survived by his wife, Kathy of Princeton; 4 sons, Josh Peterson of Rock Falls, Illinois, Chris Peterson of Des Moines, Iowa, David Peterson of Oakdale, California and Larry Peterson of Texas; 2 daughters: Jennifer Tornow of Princeton and Kelsi Peterson of Sterling, Illinois; 2 grandchildren: Hannah and Christopher Peterson; 2 sisters: Alice (Roger) Diaz of Elizabethtown, Kentucky and Sheryle (Darrel) Rush of California; 2 brothers: Martin Peterson of Happy Camp, California and Dwayne (Babs) Peterson of Orleans, California and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers: Darrell and David, and his father- in law, Leonard Tornow. Cremation rites were accorded.
