WALNUT – Donal J. “Bud” Ward, 95 of Walnut, died Saturday January 12, 2019 at his home.

He was born March 18, 1923 in Van Orin, IL the son of Bert and Ethel (King) Ward. He married Rosemary E. Hammond on June 29, 1946 in Walnut. She died June 14, 2000. Donal had farmed in the Van Orin area early in life and then for 60 years was a grain and livestock farmer in the Deer Grove area before retiring. He had milked cows and was a member of the Short Horn Association. In the past he had served on the board and past president of the First State Bank of Van Orin; he had served as the drainage ditch commissioner for Greenville Township; and had supported Illinois 4-H and was a supporter of Blackhawk East College. Donal was always a good neighbor.

He is survived by his 14 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: Dale Ward and Richard “Dick” Ward; his sister Verna Lee Broers; and a niece.

Visitation will be held on Friday January 18, 2019 from 10 -11 AM at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. The funeral will follow at 11 AM at the funeral home with the Reverend Brian Moore officiating. Burial will conclude at 1:30 PM at Van Orin Repose Cemetery.
